Lampard: Chelsea don't mind winning ugly

Frank Lampard insists Chelsea are perfectly willing to win ugly if it helps them remain in the Premier League title race. Lampard scored the only goal as the Blues recovered from back-to-back domestic losses to beat Blackburn at Ewood Park on Saturday with a less than convincing performance. After the match, the 33-year-old was adamant that, despite manager Andre Villas-Boas’ commitment to playing attractive attacking football, his side are more than prepared to scrap in order to avoid letting their title rivals slip away. "The competition at the top is so fierce you can't afford to lose too many points," he told reporters. "We knew after two defeats that this was a must-win game in terms of keeping up with the leading gang, so it was big. “It wasn't pretty but wins like this mean as much as the four or five-nils when we play beautiful football. “We don't mind winning ugly. Last season we climbed back into contention after being 15 points behind but you have to look at how well other teams are doing, particularly City. "Experience tells us there's still a long way to go but we don't want to give ourselves too much of a mountain to climb." [Goal.com]
