Real Madrid & Malaga are favourites to land Palermo's Javier Pastore - Maurizio Zamparini

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has revealed Real Madrid and Malaga are leading the race for midfielder Javier Pastore.

The South American sensation has been strongly linked with a new challenge in the summer after plying his trade at Palermo in the last two seasons.

Roma, Manchester City and Barcelona are some of the sides who have been credited with an interest in the €50m-rated midfielder, but according to the Palermo supremo, the likeliest destinations for the 22-year-old lie elsewhere.

"He will go to Spain or England. I exclude Barcelona. Real Madrid and Malaga are favourites," Zamparini told Radio Rai.

The Palermo president added the most likely scenario is that Pastore exits the club, a move which could be defined in two weeks' time.

"The situation is the hands of the attorney, but in 15 days his future should be solved, otherwise he will stay with us," Zamparini added.

"It is 90 per cent sure he will leave, because that is the player's wish. It is too bad, because he is the only world-class player I have had as a president."
