Manchester City want to replace Carlos Tevez with Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero - report

Manchester City are looking to replace wantaway striker Carlos Tevez with fellow Argentine Sergio Aguero.

The Times are reporting that manager Roberto Mancini plans to scupper Juventus’ bid for the 23-year-old and bring him to Eastlands in a €45 million deal.

Both him and Tevez are with the national squad in their home country for the 2011 Copa America, with Aguero getting on the scoresheet in the opening game of the tournament in the 1-1 draw with Bolivia.

Juve sporting director Giuseppe Marotta admitted last week that the Turin giants have identified the diminutive forward as one of their prime transfer targets, but the English side will look to steal a march in the race for the player's signature.

The Atletico Madrid forward has netted 104 goals in 234 appearances for the Spanish club, as well as scoring 11 goals in 27 games for Argentina.

City's interest in Aguero comes after Tevez formally expressed his desire to leave the club this summer.

It is the second time the striker has said he wants to move on, after releasing a similar statement during last season, although Eastlands bosses will find it hard to change his mind about quitting the club this time.

City will allegedly demand between €45m and €55m for their club captain, but his wage demands will provide an immediate stumbling block for anyone looking to purchase the former Manchester United striker.
