Roma legend Carlo Mazzone: Carlo Ancelotti is the right man for the club

Roma legend Carlo Mazzone has backed the potential appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the club’s coach in the summer.

The former AC Milan tactician was recently sacked by Chelsea as their manager and has been strongly linked with a move to Rome.

Current Roma caretaker-coach Vincenzo Montella’s contract lasts only until the summer and he himself has admitted that he has not been given any concrete offer to remain on a permanent basis as of yet.

Ancelotti has long maintained that he wants to coach Roma and club legend Mazzone, who played and coached the former Italian champions, believes that his compatriot will do a good job at the Olimpico.

“I can say, as a former player, former coach and current fan, that it’s not easy to be in charge of Roma,” Mazzone told TMW. “The fans are extremely demanding. I see only one man who is right for this job: Ancelotti. He has everything it takes to lead the Giallorossi, including a very successful career behind him.”

The 74-year-old continued: “He knows the environment, having been a Roma player. He has all the characteristics needed to represent the new club.”

Roma, who finished the season in sixth place, are set to enter a new era under a consortium led by American tycoon Thomas DiBenedetto.
