Jancker: Germany will survive Euro group

Retired Germany striker Carsten Jancker believes his country were dealt a difficult draw for the Euro 2012 group stage, but nonetheless is certain that die Mannschaft will progress to the knockout rounds.

Joachim Low's side were placed in Group B alongside the Netherlands, Portugal, and Denmark in a very tricky group, but the 37-year-old feels Germany will come out on top

"It's of course an interesting group. I think that the Netherlands will be the toughest opponent in the group,"

"If [Germany] can hold their current form, then they have good chances to win the group. We'll definitely survive the group stages."

The former Bayern Munich man anticipates good performances from Germany's stars, including Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mesut Ozil, Thomas Muller, and Miroslav Klose, and feels that the tournament's record champions can enter the tournament with bullish confidence.

"The typical players will shine. If the Germans can play their game, they don't have to fear anyone."

Jancker highlighted the Dutch as Germany's greatest challenge, and feels the World Cup finalists will finish runners-up. However, he warned against complacency from his compatriots.

"The Netherlands are in my eyes favorite for second place. Of course they're the hardest nut for Germany. All teams have their qualities. You aren't allowed to under-rate anyone who qualified for the final tournament." [Goal.com]
