Fabregas happy to avoid Russian sides

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has stated that he is happy to have avoided a tricky trip to Russia after watching his side draw Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16 of the Champions League. Despite acknowledging that Robin Dutt's side pose a threat to Barcelona's defense of the competition, the 24-year-old feels that avoiding a long-haul trip to CSKA Moscow or Zenit St Petersburg is an advantage for the Catalan club.

"Well, we have to travel to Germany. Bayer 04 Leverkusen, German teams are always very strong. We have avoided the Russians. Good," Fabregas stated on Twitter. Gerard Pique also revealed his happiness with Friday's draw, saying that he is relishing the prospect of playing in Germany. "We have drawn Bayer Leverkusen! Not bad! I've always wanted to play in a German stadium. There will be a great atmosphere for football" Pique tweeted. The first leg between the two sides will be played at the BayArena in February, before traveling to Camp Nou for the return in March. [Goal.com]
