Mancini: England can win Euro 2012

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini thinks that England are good enough to win next summer's European Championship, though he still believes Spain are the team to beat.

England have not won a major tournament since the 1966 World Cup, with semi-final appearances at the 1990 World Cup and Euro '96 the closest they have come to repeating that international success.

But after watching Fabio Capello's side record a confidence-boosting victory over reigning world and European champions Spain on Saturday, Mancini has tipped his compatriot to mount a serious challenge at Euro 2012.

"It is a good place for England to build from [the victory over Spain]," Mancini said. "They are a good team. In my opinion they can win the European Championship. Why not?

"Capello is a good manager and he has a good team, and he can also put the other young players in. Spain are the best team in Europe and maybe the world, so it is not easy to beat them. He (Capello) has another six months to prepare very well for the Euros and I think they have a chance."

The second legs of the Euro 2012 qualifying play-offs take place on Tuesday night, while the draw for the tournament is on December 2. [soccernet.espn.go.com]
