Blanc: PSG will sell a lot of Beckham shirts

France head coach Laurent Blanc has joined the growing list of doubters over the credibility of Paris Saint-Germain's potential move for LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham.

The England international, 36, has been strongly linked with a switch to the Parc des Princes as his contract with the MLS side expires in November.

Earlier in the week, Uefa president Michel Platini stated that PSG's interest in Beckham was based on commercial reasons and stressed the midfielder is well past his prime.

Blanc agrees with Platini's assertion and noted that the club should focus on young talent, such as Lille's Eden Hazard.

"While their choice for Eden Hazard looks coherent, the one for Beckham... . It should be clear, his arrival at PSG would be a big commercial deal," Blanc told CFoot.

"At a sporting level, he is closer to his retirement than to his debut. But it is clear he will sell a lot of shirts."

LA Galaxy chief Tim Leiweke has indicated that he remains hopeful Beckham will not depart the club, which he joined in 2007 from Real Madrid. [Goal.com]
