Arsenal to leave Van Persie talks until next year

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood remains hopeful Robin van Persie will commit his future to the club but said contract talks will not take place until next year.

Van Persie, 28, is out of contract in June 2013 and has been guarded about his long-term plans as the Gunners go through a transitional phase.

"He doesn't want to talk about it at the moment and we are not troubling him," Hill-Wood told the Daily Star. "I think we will approach him near the end of the season.

"But we obviously hope that he will sign a new contract - I don't see why he should not. I can't believe he is unhappy with us."

Van Persie, named club captain following the departure of Cesc Fabregas, was involved in controversy in his early career but Hill-Wood feels he has matured since moving to England.

He said: "I think he is a decent fellow. He was quite difficult at Feyenoord, but we have had no trouble with him." [Soccernet.espn.go.com]
